friends who have had difficulties screwing on their heads, it is mostly a case of disattachment. Or something or other. They are so obssessed with their friends, music, clothing, parties...whatever, that they don't see parents as an authority but as a stumbling block.

No, they should not. As parents will not be role models for us and may give us the wrong example or teach us the wrong thing. For example, parents may teach you no to smoke but then they may be a smoker themselves or they can teach you not to drink alcohol but they may be a drinker themselves.
