When teenagers don’t obey their parents, they get the impression that they have more control. When they think they have control over adults, they become disobedient and begin to challenge the authority which could get them into a lot of conflict. If they listen and obey their parents’ wishes they would respect the more important, superior authority.

If parents tell us not to curse, they would usually set an example for us. They know at teenage stage, we tend to be more rebellious. Perhaps, our parents slipped out of tongue. Parents have bad habits too, and they are trying their best to set a good example for us.

You said "they meant good for you." However, the next sentence what you said is "they would not make any bad decisions for their own chldren."

Parents' decision is usually beneficial to us. They wouldn't want us to choose the wrong path.
